Location
The village
Biddestone has been described as the quintessential English village. Situated at the southernmost tip of the Cotswolds, and within easy reach of the World Heritage City of Bath, the village is an ideal starting point to explore this beautiful part of Britain, while enjoying the peace and tranquility of village life.
The heart of the village is The Green, surrounded by 17th & 18th century houses built from mellow Cotswold stone, as the village prospered from the wool trade. The duck pond was originally a watering place for cattle from the local farms. The White Horse pub offers traditional ales and homemade food.
The church of St Nicholas dates from Anglo-Saxon times, whilst the impressive Biddestone Manor occasionally opens its magnificent gardens to the public.
The Biddestone fete is held on the Saturday in June, with traditional stalls, a brass band, and cream teas served in the gardens of The Close.
The village is the location for the popular TV detective series Agatha Raisin.
The village is 10 minutes from junction 17 or 15 minutes from junction 18 of the M5. It is an 80 minute train ride from London to Chippenham, 3 miles away.
